Is it the emotional fix that encourages the search for aesthetic beauty in all its shapes and forms? The appreciation and love of nature can be food for the soul. So, add a little something that’s old-fashioned into the mix and it’s the equivalent of having a second helping.
As humans, we so often use imagination to put ourselves in place of another. Attempt to understand ‘what it would be like’, to be in their shoes, or circumstance. We do it all the time when visiting the quaint. We automatically add value to a place by making an emotional connection.
Day 46 – Today, demonstrates that notion perfectly. En-route to a two-nighter at Camping Cantabria, near Polientes, we make a small detour to visit Orbaneja del Castillo. A tiny picturesque medieval town that’s famed for its location and cascade.

Before buildings came on the scene, this water-formed and cave dotted backdrop provided homes for those early cave dwellers for thousands of years
After our mini exertion up top, it’s time for an ice-cream. Stracciatella is on the menu. A favourite. A 1961 Italian invention. This one shop town is treated to a bazar of home made goodies. A husband and wife team create an amazing array of mouth watering pastries and puddings. A no brainer. Mrs S selects our evening coffee accompaniments.

Day 47 – Cantabria camping provides a day’s respite from travel. But not work and play. The on-site washing machine constantly earns its keep. Mrs S nabs first spin of the day. With the temperature constantly hovering around 30C, a quick dry is guaranteed. We leave the sun to take over and go cool off. Take advantage of the air-conditioned table tennis room for an hour.
Our next door neighbour has been left to fend for himself. He’s in need of some puppy love.
Time to take stock of how far we’ve come . . . and how far left to go . . .
