Days 53, 54 & 55 – It’s a good job Mr S can still do keepie-uppies . . .

As at home, most evenings away take on a familiar guise. 2 Cheeses have their own set of balls to juggle. When time allows, these are set aside to watch a film together. Throw in the World Cup group stages alongside the decision on this trip to watch a Netflix series and at times those balls have felt more like a series of spinning plates.

Possibly more so to Mr S and his commitment to this blog. Thankfully, each breakfast time’s BBC game highlights has helped to prevent ball or plate from crashing to the ground.

Day 53 – It’s now down to Beastie to do some spinning. He lands us in good time to enjoy the sweltering late afternoon heat at Camping Le Lieu.

It’s been coming for sometime. On several occasions threatened, but never materalised. However, tonight, in the early hours, a massive and spectacular thunderstorm hits. Pitched up under several tall trees, Mr S wonders . . . especially while he’s scrambling to clear away the outdoor table and chairs, if that’s a wise thing to have done. We’re not sure how much sleep either had, but it wasn’t enough. Morning brings on a whole new fresh feeling and a welcome drop in the temperature of 10C. But no electricity on site.

Day 54 – Each day now is all about the journey. We’ve left no time for stop-offs en-route. Simply content to reach each site as soon as possible and sit out for an hour before dinner. We reach Châteauroux, and Camping Le Rochat with time to spare. Go stretch off the day. Lap the pretty Lac de Belle-Ille, just next door. With it’s warm calm water and fine sandy beaches it’s a popular pic-nic attraction.

Day 55 – Today’s en-route highlight? A LIDL shop. Mainly to top up the on-board wine cellar with some fruity French reds. On arrival at Camping les Llots de Saint Val, reception holds a surprise. Mr S is asked if we’d stayed here before. His blank expression, a practised French shrug of the shoulders plus a “Je sais pas” is met with “Ah yes, I can see you stayed with us last month on May 6th”

Seems we’ve virtually finished where we’ve started.
